Vindolanda

Arguably the most important Roman site on the Wall, Vindolanda is where the scraps of papyrus with Roman writing were discovered.Close enough to reach within half an hours drive it is a must visit site for anyone interested in the Wall.

  1. I love all archaeology sites but Vindolanda impresses me most because of the Vindolanda Tablets.I would have been delighted to have been there when they were discovered. These tablets tell us so much about the Roman way of life.
