Upper Geltsdale or Jockey Shield is a large RSPB nature reserve. There are great walks here, good views and you will probably have the hills to yourself.
Set in the valley of the River Irthing, Lanercost and the surrounding countryside offers a chance to get away from it all without being too far from some of the lovely attractions of Cumbria and Northumberland.
